Roblox Studio MCP now routes every AI tool call to a specific Studio

September 28, 2026

Two Roblox Studio windows are open, and two AI agents are building at once. Which place gets the next edit? Roblox's August 19 Studio MCP update makes the target explicit: tool calls name a Studio instance with studio_id, rather than relying on the window a shared connection last marked active.

What changed in the tool interface

The Place ID helps distinguish two open Studio windows with the same name. Roblox's MCP documentation confirms the current tool list and the studio_id parameter. Roblox says a future update may add Universe IDs as another way to identify a target.

What to do after Studio updates

  1. Let Roblox Studio update, then restart your AI client once so it discovers the changed tool interface.
  2. In Studio, open Assistant Settings and go to MCP Servers. The connected clients indicator shows whether your client is live.
  3. If you use more than one Studio window, ask your client to list the open Studios and identify the intended place before it edits anything.

Clients that automatically discover MCP tools should pick up the new interface after a restart. If you built a custom workflow around set_active_studio, update that workflow to select the instance ID returned by list_roblox_studios and pass it on each call.

More reliable connections, with one playtest limit

Roblox also fixed two server issues: valid requests could return “method not implemented” when server components lost contact, and the MCP Server setting could turn itself off. Assistant Settings now displays which AI clients are connected, giving you a quick place to check when an agent stops responding.

Multiple agents could already target one Studio instance. In a reply to the announcement, Roblox staff clarified that Play mode still occupies the whole Studio window. Tools aimed at the Edit data model can fail until the playtest ends. If two agents share a window, coordinate playtesting and editing rather than assuming they can run at the same time.

Why this matters for BloxBot

BloxBot connects through Roblox's official Studio MCP server, so the new routing is part of the interface its AI clients see after a Studio update. The practical benefit is clearer targeting when several Studio windows are open. This announcement does not add a new game-building capability; it makes existing MCP actions easier to direct and connections easier to diagnose.

The GPT-6 Astra Roblox racer case study shows the kind of multi-tool brief creators are now sharing. It calls for Studio MCP and Blender to handle different parts of one build, while leaving the actual tool trace unverified.

Frequently asked questions

What changed in the Roblox Studio MCP multi-agent update?

Each tool call now identifies its target Studio with studio_id. The old set_active_studio tool was removed. list_roblox_studios also returns Place IDs for published places.

How do I get the updated Studio MCP tools?

Update Roblox Studio, then restart your AI client once so it discovers the updated tools. Check Assistant Settings > MCP Servers to confirm the client is connected.

Can multiple AI agents work in one Roblox Studio window?

Roblox says multiple agents targeting one Studio were already supported. The update improves routing across multiple Studio instances; Play mode still takes over a Studio window, so Edit data model tools cannot run there during a playtest.
